I'm a Washington, DC-based journalist who travels and works primarily outside of the mid Atlantic, While home and abroad, I take great pleasure in photographing the world around me. Today I'm sharing with you the best of my photography. Some of my photographs were taking while on assignment. Many are of places I love: my home town of Old Town Alexandria; Virginia, neighboring Washington, DC; and places I adore: New England, Europe, and Asia. Other photos highlight the world around us all: flowers, leaves, stones, ponds, streets.... These are special. I am fascinated by colors and shapes as well as the organic nature of material and immaterial objects. I try to capture artistic elements of postive and negative space, complimentary and uncomplimentary colors, atmosphere, the effect of sunlight, shadows, and how lightness and darkness play on each other. I am also interested in the recording of time and place, as well as capturing that certain mood one feels when standing in a particular place. I explore these same topics in my oil paintings, many of which are also painted on location. One last note: my photographs are presented as I took them. None are color enhanced, corrected or "photo-shopped." It's my belief that good art speaks for itself. The photographer still must have a good eye and a keen sense of composition.
